2010 Wedding Stationery Trends

Here are some interesting thoughts on wedding invitations for the coming year by Ananya Cards (Ananya - Sanskrit for ‘without equal’).

• Monogram use will increase; many brides are asking for a monogram to be included on wedding stationery. (Post wedding they then use it on thank you cards, stickers and correspondence cards). The monograms have shown a tendency to move away from initials to a ‘logo’ or motif symbolic to the bridal couple.

• Crystals to add sparkle to wedding stationery will continue to be big news.

• Vibrant, zingy colours particularly teal and purple will be popular in 2010.

• Wedding invitations will be printed on metallic gold or silver card, to give a luxurious look to the stationery.

• When it comes to wedding stationery its all about the details! The envelopes for the invitations are often just as important as the invitation itself and will be the first thing that guests will see. Attention to detail is paramount. For a professional finish, you can print the guest’s names and addresses onto the back of the envelope along with the couple’s monogram or a design unique to them.

• Wish tags will be used as an alternative to the traditional guest book. Small tags are used for guests to ‘share a wish idea'. Guests are asked to make a wish (a small piece of marriage advice, quotes or anything they would like to share on the cards) and tie the wish to a tree/plant so that it becomes a 'wish tree'.

• Ethnic influences: provide your invitations with a unique, individual edge by using both vivid patterns and bright, bold colours, either from the bridal couple’s ethnic background or from a favourite country or region of the world. Your chosen colour combination can be used throughout your wedding day (décor, flower, menu etc), so that everything complements each other.

• Destination Weddings are increasingly popular: this means that you can use the location of the wedding as inspiration for the design of the invitations. If the couple is going to a special place for the ceremony, then it makes sense to create the wedding stationery in a special way too. Use this opportunity to entice guests and do something different from everyone else.

• With an increase in multicultural weddings, wedding invitations will reflect the couple’s heritage and/or ethnic background.

 • The seasons: allow the couple to concentrate the theme of the wedding invitations and stationery around the date of the wedding. Snowflakes in winter; leaves in autumn and bright colours in summer - the possibilities are endless for creating seasonal invitations.
